NEW YORK—On the evening of March 25, 2026, senior systems engineer Shakeel Daniyal attended Shen Yun Performing Arts’ opening performance at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. He described the experience as “touching the soul” and akin to “a spiritual awakening,” expressing resonance with the message conveyed in the lyrics about preserving goodness and returning to heaven.

Mr. Daniyal, a senior systems engineer at a major healthcare organization in New York, works in the field of information technology. He said he had been following Shen Yun advertisements for nearly a month. As his mother had long wished to see the performance while visiting him in New York, he brought her to experience it together.

The performance exceeded his expectations. “I love it—love it,” he said. “We’ve been waiting for this for a while, and seeing it live in the theater is amazing. I’m really enjoying it.” He added that he looks forward to returning in the future: “I want to come back next year. We will definitely come back again.”

The New York–based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share the beauty of China before communism.
Now in its 20th year of operation, Shen Yun is once again on tour with eight equally large companies, offering audiences worldwide a vivid encounter with this timeless cultural tradition.

Having heard of Shen Yun’s unique beauty, Mr. Daniyal said the live experience fully lived up to its reputation. “Yes, it’s true—it really touches your heart,” he said. “You need to come to the theater and feel the atmosphere yourself. You have to see it in person to truly experience it.”

Reflecting on the performance as a whole, he was deeply impressed by its artistic excellence. “Everything was amazing—everything,” he said. “The dancing was amazing, the choreography was perfect. Everything was good.” Praising the performers’ skill, he added, “Perfect—100 out of 100!”

Through classical Chinese, folk, and story-based dances, Shen Yun brings to life traditional values such as filial piety, kindness, truthfulness, and loyalty.

Mr. Daniyal said he felt a connection to these values.  “There’s so much culture there,” he said. “No matter what perspective you look at it from—Indian, American, etc.—you can still connect with it. You see different cultural elements through it.” He noted that the performance offers audiences a chance to experience the richness of a civilization spanning thousands of years and diverse traditions.

Endowed with 5,000 years of civilization, China was once known as the “Land of the Divine.” For millennia, its people believed that by keeping their hearts pure and upholding high moral standards, they would receive blessings from the heavens.

After watching Shen Yun, Mr. Daniyal agreed with the idea that such culture is a gift from the divine. “It touches your soul,” he said. “You see the beauty of other cultures and so much history—5,000 years of civilization.”

He also reflected on the spiritual message conveyed through the performance, particularly in the music and lyrics. “Spiritual—yes, definitely,” he said. “It brings peace—peace, definitely.” He resonated with the message that maintaining goodness and tradition offers a path back to the divine.

In closing, he expressed his support and appreciation for the artists. “Good luck—best of luck,” he said. “Keep doing it again and again. When you come back every year, we definitely want to come back and see you.”

In addition to his professional work, Mr. Daniyal is also a certified member of the Nassau County Community Emergency Response Team, volunteering in disaster management and recovery efforts to support the county’s Office of Emergency Management.
