SALT LAKE CITY—Mark Vajcovec and Dolores Vajcovec saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 18 at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Theater.

“It’s beautiful. Very moving. It’s not only the colors—everything was spectacular. It’s unbelievable how talented everybody is and it’s been something I wanted to see for a long time and I’m so glad we finally made it,” said Ms. Vajcovec.

Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.

“If you take 5,000 years of civilization and learning and going through time—it’s very good for the world to see this, and I’m glad that someone’s doing this,” said Mr. Vajcovec, who owned a packaging company before retirement.

Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“I just think the talent is beyond reproach, the dancers are exceptional, and the message is very sincere,” Mr. Vajcovec said.

Shen Yun uses Classical Chinese dance to portray the modern true story of Falun Dafa practitioners being persecuted for their faith in China. Falun Dafa is a peaceful practice that teaches the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.

Ms. Vajcovec found the dance depicting the persecution to be “very moving.”

“To understand that the regime in China is not good for the people and people have a right to believe in what they want to believe in. They have a right to practice what they want to practice. And I wish that the leaders would understand that better,” Mr. Vajcovec said.

The couple described the dance as “a wakeup,” and they were shocked that something like the organ harvesting of Falun Dafa practitioners is still happening in present-day China.

“It’s too bad that the world or the press doesn’t make this more known to the world,” Mr. Vajcovec said.

With 5,000 years of history and literature to draw from, Shen Yun is able to put on an all-new production every year.
“Thank you very much for performing and sharing your talent with us because we need this,” Ms. Vajcovec said.

“This world is a little crazy and unpredictable, and right now we just need to get this message across, and we need to wake up to it. So, we appreciate everything they’re doing,” she elaborated.
