Mr. Repper found so much to love in New York-based Shen Yun. “The costumes are wonderful. The special effects with the backgrounds; I understand that’s patented. I’m a patent lawyer, so I’m going to look up those patents when I get home and find out what they are,” Mr. Repper said.
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive “China before communism.” Shen Yun performs many of the stories and legends that have been carried down through the ages.
The communist regime continues to persecute and suppress people of faith, and Shen Yun dramatizes these stories.
Mr. Repper was on board with Shen Yun’s spiritual message. “I agree that atheism is bad. I think that, without religion, people kind of run amok, and societies go downhill. I’m glad to see traditions. I think only with tradition can society flourish,” he said.
“That’s an interesting thing because both my wife and I are very spiritual and meditate. It’s been very important for peace within,” he said. “There’s so many terrible things going on out there. All we have is right here—who we meet, and our family—and spirituality is very important. [Meditating] gives us very much support and peace within. I’m trying to find it in myself.”
Mr. Repper said he would definitely recommend Shen Yun to everyone. He said he would describe it as “fantastic [with the] lights and fantastic dancing. And spiritually, it’s enlightening and very traditional, and I think helpful.
