ATLANTA—On the afternoon of Jan. 29, Rabbi Jeffrey Feinstein and his wife, Marci Feinstein, attended the Shen Yun World Performing Arts Company show at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. He said the performance far exceeded his expectations and left a deep impression on his heart, as he experienced what he described as unbelievably powerful energy.

Rabbi Feinstein, after a career in the corporate world, went into a unique combination of military service and religious leadership. Reflecting on the performance, he praised Shen Yun’s artistic level as “very high” and “outstanding,” saying that words alone were insufficient to convey the experience.
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.

“I’m sorry, I make my living with words, and I don’t have words enough to describe this experience,” he said. “It far surpassed the expectations. It is absolutely astounding!”

He went on to say that Shen Yun is not just visually impressive, but deeply moving on a spiritual level. “Indeed. The performance has had a very profound effect on me,” he said.

Rabbi Feinstein further explained that Shen Yun offers more than a visual and auditory spectacle—it evokes a deep emotional response that is difficult to put into words. “Unless you are sitting in the audience yourself, you really cannot describe it; it is beyond words,” he said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s culture as it existed before decades of communist rule nearly destroyed it.

Rabbi Feinstein noted that the performance offered an authentic glimpse of traditional Chinese culture while helping to dispel misunderstandings about Chinese people.

He also emphasized the profound spiritual heritage found within Chinese culture. “If you go back to Confucius, go back to Buddha … a lot of Western religions have grown from Chinese culture and spiritual traditions,” he said. Pointing to his heart, he added, “We all dance in here.”

He said he felt a strong connection to the messages conveyed in Shen Yun, particularly its themes of creation and redemption.

“The Chinese have an origin story, and the Jews have an origin story. They’re not all that different, and the theme blends very naturally,” he said. “We all come from the same place. I cannot say I am better than you. We have the same ancestors, so we are all one family. I cannot hate you, and I hope you cannot hate me. We have to get along together.”

Mrs. Feinstein also shared her admiration for the performance. “The performance is beautiful, absolutely,” she said. She especially enjoyed the costumes and the dance, noting, “There are so many costume changes, and they are all so beautiful.”

Rabbi Feinstein added that what stayed with him most was not only the dance itself, but also the powerful energy of the performance. “I truly wish I could bottle that energy and take some with me,” he said.
