BIAŁYSTOK, Poland—On the evening of January 7, Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company concluded its third performance in Białystok, Poland—the final show of its local run in this city—with great success. Members of the mainstream audience expressed their gratitude for the wonderful experience Shen Yun brought them. At the end of the performance, the entire audience rose to their feet in applause, and the Shen Yun artists returned to the stage for three curtain calls.
“I am speechless because the choreography is absolutely beautiful, and the dancers’ movements are so fluid. It’s truly wonderful—an amazing feeling. I am filled with admiration,” said Monika Leśniewska, MD, PhD.
Audience members often comment that Shen Yun’s dancers exhibit great skill in gymnastics or acrobatics, but Shen Yun’s website tells us that the techniques seen in the performance actually originate from classical Chinese dance.

“I can only add to everything my colleague has said. I am delighted by the acrobatics—absolutely amazed by them,” said Mirosława Wołczyńska, a family physician.

“I am completely enchanted by the dance and the music. The most impressive effect was when the artists stepped from the screen onto the stage—it was truly magical,” said Zbigniew Brzeziński, Polish folk dance instructor and singer.

Mr. Zbigniew Brzeziński, a Polish folk-dance instructor and singer, said he was especially impressed by the erhu solo.

The Shen Yun Orchestra, which tours with Shen Yun, is a unique combination of traditional Chinese instruments and a classic Western ensemble. One instrument that shone under the spotlight was the two-stringed erhu.
“This two-stringed instrument is very interesting—you can play many different scales on it. I was deeply impressed. I used to play the trumpet and keyboard instruments myself. One could say that this instrument is closely connected with Chinese folk culture,” Mr. Brzeziński said.
All of Shen Yun’s music has been composed or arranged by Shen Yun’s resident composers.

“It’s incredible. The melodies and instruments are somewhat different from what we hear constantly in everyday life. Here, you can hear this once a year,” said Zofia Klawinowska, Mr. Brzeziński’s friend.

Ms. Leśniewska praised Shen Yun for its power to transform people and improve relationships among them.

“I think performances like this are truly needed by people, because they transform us—they show us a gentler side, and we become gentler toward one another,” Ms. Leśniewska said.

Zofia Klawinowska, who was also in the audience, shared that Shen Yun left a deep impression on her.

“For me, it was beautiful. I experienced it very deeply—especially because it spoke about God, and in some countries, one is not allowed to speak about God. Here, God is spoken of, and it’s something beautiful. In Poland, we can speak about God—and let the whole world know. We have had enough of communism,” Ms. Klawinowska said.

Zbigniew Brzeziński noticed a shared universal denominator between Western and Eastern cultures—God and faith.

“Faith in God in general [is what connects these cultures]—faith in a [higher] power, in patience. And also work—work on oneself,” Mr. Zbigniew said.
