VANCOUVER—Brandon Pringle and his wife Karina Pringle flew to Vancouver from Calgary just to see Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on April 8, 2026.

In light of the recent cancellations of Shen Yun’s performances in Toronto, Mr. Pringle was all the more glad that he was able to experience Shen Yun.

“We were very blessed when we confirmed our tickets,” he said.

Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.

“It is very important that the whole world knows what’s going on [in China],” Mr. Pringle said.

Shen Yun uses classical Chinese dance to tell stories from China’s five-millennia history. Its dance stories also portray the modern true story of Falun Dafa practitioners being persecuted for their faith in China. Falun Dafa is a peaceful practice that teaches the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance.

“You see a country that went through this and is still going through it. People are taking a stand and saying we know the possible persecution, but we will speak out the truth because we need freedom, and we need to have freedom of speech,” Ms. Pringle said.

As subscribers to The Epoch Times, Mr. Pringle and Ms. Pringle have a good understanding of the Chinese Communist Party.

“[Communism] is the biggest threat to humanity, essentially. There’s no freedom in China. They have 570 million cameras watching everything ... that you’re doing,” Mr. Pringle said.

He also worries that Canada is slowly falling into the communist trap.

“Canada is on its way to becoming a state where you have a social credit score. … Wake up, Canadians. Wake up because it’s coming here,” Mr. Pringle said.

“Communism is trying to come here, and it’s trying to take over. The church in this nation needs to rise up and push communism out.”

As a pastor, Mr. Pringle believes that the church should not stand by while genocide is happening. The history of World War II can’t be repeated. He also mentioned that there are people in China who need help.
Although Shen Yun is very entertaining, Mr. Pringle feels that Shen Yun isn’t just for entertainment purposes.

He said he thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

“This was fabulous. It was rich for your soul. … It was funny, it was deep, it was wonderful. Everything about it was absolutely wonderful,” he said.
