NEW YORK CITY—“Shen Yun is a production of exceptional artistic caliber,” said Wang Yiru, director of the New York Overseas Community Service Center, who was immediately captivated upon seeing the performance for the first time.
She praised Shen Yun’s refined artistry, adding, “Whether it’s the dance, choreography, or music, everything is very thoughtfully designed.”
On the afternoon of April 9, Ms. Wang attended a Shen Yun performance at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.
As a Chinese viewer, Ms. Wang said she felt the performance went beyond cultural preservation, presenting tradition in a refreshing and visually engaging way. “It brings traditional Chinese culture to life through modern artistic presentation, allowing mainstream American audiences to appreciate it. I think that’s wonderful,” she said.
Ms. Wang emphasized that art carries a universal, cross-cultural power. “In a free society, art knows no borders, and performing arts should not be restricted in any way,” she said. “Being able to present this kind of performance in the United States allows people to appreciate it freely. Seeing so many mainstream audience members here shows strong recognition of Shen Yun’s presentation of traditional culture.”
In closing, Ms. Wang expressed admiration for Shen Yun’s artistic excellence. “Its traditional dances, costumes, and stage design are all very appealing,” she said.
