SYDNEY—Despite the efforts of the Chinese Consulate, Lyle Shelton, National Director of the Family First political party, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 24 at Sydney Lyric Theatre.
“It’s very impressive. It’s an amazing production, and I’m really glad to be here. I came in defiance of the Chinese Communist Party because when I heard that officials from the consulates in Melbourne and Sydney were telling Australians not to go, that made me want to come all the more,” Mr. Shelton shared.

Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism,” and revive people’s connection with 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.

“I think it’s really important that you keep the Chinese culture and heritage alive in the face of the CCP. … To say that to Australians that they shouldn’t go and watch a particular production, that just goes against everything that we believe as Australians,” Mr. Shelton said.

In regard to the recent bomb threat to Australia’s Prime Minister, Mr. Shelton said, “To the CCP and their officials in the consulates in Melbourne and Sydney, and whoever sent the bomb threat to Anthony Albanese, back off. This is Australia. We’re a free country, and people are free to express their religious beliefs and their cultural heritage.”

Founded in New York in 2006, Shen Yun was established by elite artists who fled persecution by the Chinese Communist Party.

“I think a lot of people don’t realize how violent and how evil the Chinese Communist Party is. Not the Chinese people, but the Chinese Communist Party is a very evil regime. The Chinese Communist Party needs to stop interfering in our nation and telling us what shows we can go to at the theatre because we’re not going to put up with that,” Mr. Shelton said.

Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“Very powerful. I’m not a musician or a dancer, but I can appreciate the incredible skill of the performers and the live orchestra. It really is a very fabulous performance. It’s highly skilled, and people should come and see it,” Mr. Shelton said.

“One dance that left a deep impression on Mr. Shelton told the true story of Falun Dafa practitioners following the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Despite their goodness, they are being persecuted for their faith in present-day China.

“The story of the oppression from the CCP—I think that was very powerful to demonstrate the organ harvesting. That’s quite brutal, and it’s very confronting, but I think people need to see that to understand that people in China, whether they’re Falun Dafa or Christians, are being persecuted for their faith by a violent atheistic regime,” he said.
