MÜLHEIM, Germany—On March 8, Shen Yun Performing Arts closed the curtain for a final sold-out performance in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. Following the performance, the artists received a strong standing ovation from the audience.

“It was great, I’m really impressed. I knew from before about that show. I have seen some parts on YouTube, some advertising. But to see it live is something really great,” Radoslav Stoyanov, an IT architect, said

“It was very spectacular. It exceeded our expectations. It’s very fascinating and very colorful,” operations analyst Miroslava Gerova said.

Marco Bieker, a contracts manager, said, “I was very impressed by the range of movements the human body is capable of. I can’t do it myself, of course, but it’s still very, very impressive.

“The choreography also thrilled me, as did the interplay with the electronic media behind it, the jumping in and out of the stage,” he added. “You could hardly tell there was a transition. It was incredibly precise. And it was very, very impressive.”

Mr. Bieker also really enjoyed the Shen Yun orchestra. “The musical performances were very impressive. I always feel that Chinese music goes straight to your heart, even if you weren’t born there or grew up with it. Especially the stringed instruments and so on. The whole thing is very special.”

Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values. These values include kindness, loyalty, and standing up for what’s right with faith, which resonated with many of the audience members.

“This divine aspect, that we should be able to have confidence in ourselves, I think it fits incredibly well into this time, I must say,” jeweler Ruth Becker said. “So I'd say that even people who generally say they have no faith, I think you simply feel that something exists.”

Mr. Stoyanov said, “The lack of spiritual practices in the modern world leads in a totally different direction, and it really impressed me that this was said openly. That doesn’t happen very often, or at all.”

Shen Yun simultaneously tours the world with eight performing groups. Each year, they present a brand-new program with new music, dances, and choreography.

“[A] very spectacular show with lots of people, different stories, different kinds of dancing and it’s very interesting. We didn’t get bored for a second,” Ms. Gerova said.

Ms. Becker said, “See for yourself. I think it’s very difficult to convey. You have to experience it, and I would advise everyone to come here.”

Mr. Bieker said, “I would say it’s a great program, a must-see. I can only recommend coming here or wherever it’s being held.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Lyon, France, from April 6–12.
