MEXICO CITY, Mexico—On the evening of May 1, the Shen Yun Touring Company opened its 2026 performance series at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City to a warm and receptive audience. Sustained applause filled the theater throughout the performance as viewers responded to Shen Yun’s refined artistry, highly skilled dance, and rich cultural expression.
Miguel Ángel Jara Bordi, a Mexican businessman and president of the CIMSA Group, attended the performance with friends. He said the show offered a vivid presentation of traditional Chinese culture and left a strong impression on him.
“The show is extraordinary,” Mr. Jara Bordi said. “This is my third time, and I will be back.”
He said the performance demonstrated remarkable discipline and precision among the artists.
“The choreography and stage design are incredible. The way all the performers are in sync, with every movement so precise—it requires a great deal of discipline and obedience,” he said.
Mr. Jara Bordi added that these qualities reflect what he sees as distinctive characteristics of Asian culture.
“That’s what sets Asian cultures apart; they’re very orderly. They have honor; it’s a hallmark of their culture,” he said. “When they bring that to a stage, it creates a perfect embodiment of Asian culture—in this case, Chinese culture.”
Reflecting on one of these pieces, Mr. Jara Bordi shared his understanding of its message.
“It speaks of thinking, of meditating,” he said. “The foundation of this group can heal everything; with goodwill and prayer, everything can be healed. That form, that ideology, can save China and can save the world. That is how I understand it.”
He also commented on the situation in China and the challenges faced by artists.
“It’s not fair because China tries to keep controlling all its citizens. That’s why it’s red China, communist China,” he said. “And the new society that’s linked to freedom is being persecuted.”
At the same time, he noted, the message of freedom of belief continues to grow and reach audiences worldwide.
“This group is growing, and China is starting to change … They have to adapt to the world,” he said. “These dances, which aren’t allowed in China, are seen all over the world.”
Marking Shen Yun’s 20th anniversary, Mr. Jara Bordi also expressed admiration for the company’s artistic director, who oversees the creation of its entirely new annual production.
“I admire and respect the artistic director,” he said. “Getting all the choreography and all the artists to work that way—not just anyone can achieve that. The director does manage to do it.”
“That is why they devote themselves, body and soul, to the work,” he said.
