NEW YORK CITY—Edwin Castro, a martial artist, found Shen Yun’s “soothing and calming” energy something “definitely to come back to.” On April 9, Mr. Castro and his wife enjoyed Shen Yun Performing Arts for the second time at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

“It brings me into another world of peace and tranquillity. From the very beginning to the end, there are so many feelings involved. That’s why it’s such an amazing show, and I’ll be back to see it again.” Mr. Castro said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Since its founding in 2006, Shen Yun has been touring the world, presenting the authentic traditional culture and the beauty of “China before communism.”

Mr. Castro appreciated the cultural aspect of the show. He said, “It was a wonderful show. Beautiful colors. Beautiful costumes, dancing. It showed a lot of culture in the Chinese world. It’s just a gorgeous, gorgeous program. I would recommend it to everybody.”

Shen Yun programs consist of legends and true stories spanning 5,000 years of history as well as modern times. Each piece was equally touching to Mr. Castro. “I loved all of them. I loved every single portion of the show. All the dancing, the different cultures, especially the costumes,” he said. “The dancing is just so amazing, that’s what captures me. I love the art itself. That’s what brings me back.”

Shen Yun dancers are trained in classical Chinese dance, which is a very expressive dance form. Mr. Castro was very impressed with the dancers. “They’re great. They’re very acrobatic, flexible, and on point, very synchronized, which makes the show so beautiful.” Mr. Castro said, “ Everybody moves at the same time, whether they’re flowing in the air or landing, it’s just great.”

He is equally impressed by the digital backdrop. He said, “The background, the scenery, the way they transformed the picture in the back into a real world, the transformations back and forth was inspiring. Very astounding.”

“I was completely entranced. It captures me. There was not one moment that I stopped watching,” Mr. Castro said, adding that he will definitely come back next year.
