“This [Shen Yun] has been the best gift I could have given myself,” Mr. Espinilla said. “I’m so moved, I’m even trembling a little with emotion because of the wonder I’ve just witnessed. I’ve never seen anything so spectacular!”
Mr. Espinilla, who works in the insurance industry, was completely in awe of the performance. “The show was one thing after another. The excitement came every time the curtain went up—it was a different kind of excitement each time,” he said. “It was that anticipation of thinking, ‘My goodness, what’s coming next? What’s coming next?’”
Ms. Hernández had the same feeling. She said, “It surprised me and moved me because there’s a blend of colors and emotion—it leaves you speechless, with your mouth agape, eager to see what comes next. You’re truly wide-eyed and utterly amazed.”
In addition, Mr. Espinilla was really impressed by the staging. “It was that background image, even though it was digital, it was incredibly striking in combination with the costumes. Everything was so precise and so well thought out.”
Mr. Espinilla described the sensation when he was completely taken in by the two-string erhu solo performance. “At that point, I really got into the mindset to let the emotions wash over me, as the music took us from serenity to joy as the tempo picked up.”
He was also able to see the facial expressions of the dancers. “I understand they’ve been doing this for many years, looking at their facial expressions—those are genuine, how they convey emotion. One very important thing I noticed is how they express themselves without speaking the language. It’s very understandable to the audience so the messages come across really well to everyone.”
Mr. Espinilla would recommend anyone to watch the show, “It doesn’t matter who the audience is, this is a show for everyone. I'd pay every last cent to watch it.”
