TORONTO—The director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto, Jin-ling Chen, applauded Shen Yun for bringing “this beautiful culture and art to everyone.”

She expressed hope that the performance can be seen in more cities and congratulated Shen Yun for its “very successful performance.”

Ms. Chen attended Shen Yun’s evening performance at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on April 2, marking the second time she has seen the show.

“It was very exciting, including the stage and costume design, and you can see the artists put a lot of effort into every performance,” she said in an interview translated from Chinese.

‘[It] reminds us of the joy and sorrow throughout history, yet presenting it in a very humorous and artistically beautiful way. It’s fantastic.”

Ms. Chen praised Shen Yun’s profound and remarkable artistic achievements.

“I believe Shen Yun—in every aspect of artistic achievement, including the performances by the orchestra, the exquisite dance by the actors onstage, costume design, colour coordination, lighting effects, and the high-tech presentation of the backdrop—is truly an extraordinary work of art that is highly recommended to everyone,” she said.

“I truly admire all of the staff of Shen Yun for their many years of dedication,” she continued. “Every dancer is very professional, and from their performances, we can see the tremendous effort they put in. All the backstage staff are also very professional and dedicated.”

Ms. Chen also highlighted Shen Yun’s mission to revive traditional Chinese culture, saying that “this is a very firm belief and philosophy, to convey beauty and kindness to everyone, which I greatly admire.”

She said the lively and fascinating stories woven into the dances were familiar pieces from her childhood, allowing her to relive the memorable moments of her youth.

“Shen Yun is truly a remarkable performance, allowing us to reminisce about the beauty of the past while also instilling a sense of longing and hope for the future.”

Shen Yun has become popular worldwide in less than two decades, something Ms. Chen finds remarkable.

“Shen Yun not only tours in Toronto and Canada but also in Taiwan, where many of our colleagues have seen it, as well as in other countries around the world,” she said.

“I would really like to know how Shen Yun manages to tour on such a large scale, with so many people involved, yet every performance is so successful. This is something that is definitely worth exploring and learning from.”
