GENOVA, Genova— On Feb. 27, Shen Yun International Company presented two performances—an afternoon and an evening show—at Genova’s renowned Teatro Carlo Felice, both to full houses. The auditorium resounded with enthusiastic applause and cheers as audiences expressed their heartfelt appreciation. Many remarked that the performance was one worth seeing again and again.

Among those attending the evening performance was Riccardo Di Rella Tomasi Di Lampedusa, a senior criminal lawyer who has previously served multiple terms as president of the local bar association.

Following the performance, he spoke highly of Shen Yun’s overall artistic vision and its seamless integration of high-tech elements, while also expressing appreciation for the company’s mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.

“It’s a wonderful show. I liked everything about it,” he said.

Mr. Tomasi di Lampedusa was particularly impressed by the coordination between Shen Yun’s dancers and its patented animated digital backdrop. The special effect allows characters on stage to enter and exit the screen seamlessly.

“I liked everything about the performance,” he said. “To synchronize precisely with the images on the screen, the timing of the performers going in and out has to be exact. I imagine that’s quite complicated—even their positions must be perfect. That part of the staging impressed me very much.

“I especially liked when the Monkey King appeared,” he said with enthusiasm. “When he starts moving inside the screen, that’s what amazes you. And the quick costume changes are also fascinating. I’d love to understand how they do it—but perhaps that’s a secret.”

Shen Yun’s vocal soloists perform original Chinese lyrics using the traditional bel canto technique. Mr. Tomasi di Lampedusa praised the baritone’s performance. “He sang very well—truly excellent,” he said.
He also commended the live orchestra, which blends Western and Chinese instruments to create a distinctive and harmonious sound. “The orchestra was excellent as well. They seem very young—particularly young musicians,” he remarked.
Through artistry of the highest caliber, Shen Yun brings to life the essence of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. Within its vibrant storytelling and classical aesthetics, audiences enjoy tales inspired by timeless virtues—a heritage that, under communist rule, was nearly lost.
This profound mission of cultural revival resonated deeply with Mr. Tomasi di Lampedusa. “Rebuilding what has been destroyed is not easy,” he said. “But it is certainly a good initiative.”

In his view, the preservation and restoration of tradition is not solely the Chinese people’s responsibility, but a shared human calling. “All traditions should be recovered, not only Chinese ones,” he said.

Overall, Mr. Tomasi di Lampedusa described the evening as both rare and memorable. With evident appreciation, he concluded: “A splendid performance!”
