TOULON, France—On Jan. 5, 2026, Raymond and Nicole Spitz attended a Shen Yun performance at the Zénith Oméga in Toulon. Both well-known figures in the European luxury hotel industry, they shared that they had discovered a show that they unanimously described as “splendid.”

Former general manager of Mas d‘Artigny in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Raymond Spitz is also well known for having managed, with his wife, Château d’Esclimont in Eure-et-Loir. Nicole Spitz, now retired, was general manager of the Hôtel Negresco in Nice, an iconic establishment in the French luxury hotel industry.

“Superb, magnificent! We had heard about it from friends, and indeed, it is truly splendid,” says Raymond Spitz. “Very beautiful choreography, very beautiful show! We have no regrets, far from it.”

His wife shares his enthusiasm. “I’m very happy because it’s unusual. We look for shows that are a little out of the ordinary. It’s a small glimpse into a China we don’t know,” she explains.

Music, Costumes, and Immersive Visuals

The couple emphasized the quality of the artistic performances, both musically and visually. Nicole Spitz mentioned the orchestra and soloists in particular. Although she was surprised by the soprano’s range, which differed from Western standards, she said she was deeply impressed by the performance on the erhu, a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument. “I loved the young girl who played the erhu. ... It was magnificent! We wanted to hear more,” she says, while Raymond Spitz praises her as a “very talented musician.”

The costumes and scenography also left a strong impression. “Magnificent costumes, exceptional dancers, dazzling scenery,” Nicole Spitz said.

“I was enchanted, like a child!”

A Universal Spiritual Dimension

Beyond aesthetics, Raymond Spitz evokes the show’s unique atmosphere. “You feel like you’re entering a completely different state of mind, bathed in a kind of divinity. You’re truly in harmony with the story being presented,” he explains.
His wife shares this sentiment, emphasizing a point that is essential to her: the spiritual resonance of the performance. “Although we are Christians, everything speaks to us. We found ourselves. Everything speaks to us,“ says Nicole Spitz. Through the stories told by Shen Yun, the couple says they find universal values that they also associate with their Christian faith: kindness, faith, hope, a sense of right and wrong, and a quest for spiritual elevation. ”It makes you want to explore further,” she adds.
According to Shen Yun’s official website, the artists draw inspiration from Falun Dafa, a traditional Chinese spiritual discipline based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, which permeate the company’s artistic expression.

A Show that Inspires Discovery

Raymond and Nicole Spitz traveled a long way to attend Shen Yun’s performance in Toulon, drawn by the promise of something different. Their expectations were more than fulfilled, they say, by a show they describe as harmonious, inspiring, and deeply human.

Through dance, music, and spirituality, Shen Yun seems to have struck a particular chord with this couple, who are sensitive to both artistic excellence and the universal values conveyed on stage.
