CINCINNATI, Ohio—Warm applause and audible expressions of awe filled the theater on Feb. 7, as Shen Yun Touring Company presented two performances in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ahead of the performances, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine sent a congratulatory letter welcoming Shen Yun’s return and wishing the artists continued success.

Among those in attendance was Valerie Orr, vice president of operations at Hilton Worldwide, who said the performance offered not only artistic excellence but also a profound sense of spiritual elevation.

“The show brings an inner calmness,” Ms. Orr said. “It brings you closer to the spiritual state you should have toward God.”

Ms. Orr has held senior leadership roles across multiple Hilton brands, including Hampton by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton, serving as vice president of operations and general manager over the course of her career.

Having seen Shen Yun previously, she said this year’s performance left an even deeper impression.

“I saw it a few years ago, and this one is probably the best so far,” she said, adding that Shen Yun is not merely an artistic presentation, but a deeply spiritual experience.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is a leading classical Chinese dance and music company dedicated to reviving traditional Chinese culture. Since its founding in 2006, the company has presented an entirely new program each year, captivating audiences worldwide.

Ms. Orr said the performance resonated with her on a spiritual level, conveying both serenity and inner strength.

“The spiritual element really resonates with a sense of calmness and the inner strength of the people,” she said. “Just through their performance, you can feel a kind of spiritual presence.”

She described feeling a closeness to heaven and the Creator during the performance, particularly in the final piece.

“‘Salvation’ was beautiful—absolutely beautiful,” she said. “It was amazing.”

Reflecting on Shen Yun’s portrayal of traditional culture, Ms. Orr emphasized the importance of connecting with different civilizations and spiritual worlds.

“It’s very important to bring other worlds into ours,” she said, “so we can appreciate what we have more.”

She added that understanding China’s history as depicted on stage—where it once was and where it is today—can be deeply moving.

As Shen Yun marks its 20th anniversary, Ms. Orr said its spiritual message carries a positive influence across societies.

“It encourages people to be more compassionate, more empathetic, and more understanding of one another,” she said.

When recommending Shen Yun to friends, Ms. Orr said what sets it apart most is the dancers’ extraordinary precision and the production’s use of color to portray the universe.

“The precision of the dances and how the world and universe are portrayed through color—that’s what makes it so special,” she said.

She also expressed deep admiration for the artists themselves.

“They are amazing,” she said. “They are the best group. Their gentleness, their respect—the whole group is just incredible.”

Ms. Orr attended the performance with Rich Fornshell, a retired General Motors car builder, who also praised several elements of the show.

“I thought the Water Sleeves dance was really good,” Mr. Fornshell said. “The Monkey King was also excellent. And I really enjoyed how the performers went into the screen and came back out.”

The screen Mr. Fornshell referred to is Shen Yun’s patented, high-tech animated backdrop, which synchronizes seamlessly with the live performance on stage.

What impressed him most, however, was the dancers’ precision.

“The precision of it all—the preciseness,” he said. “That’s what really stood out.”

According to Shen Yun’s official website, the company’s artistic vision is inspired by Falun Dafa, a spiritual practice centered on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. At the theater, informational displays and book stands introduced these teachings to audiences, and many attendees purchased Falun Dafa books, expressing a desire to further explore the profound philosophy behind the performance.
