Among those in attendance was Valerie Orr, vice president of operations at Hilton Worldwide, who said the performance offered not only artistic excellence but also a profound sense of spiritual elevation.
“The show brings an inner calmness,” Ms. Orr said. “It brings you closer to the spiritual state you should have toward God.”
Ms. Orr has held senior leadership roles across multiple Hilton brands, including Hampton by Hilton and Home2 Suites by Hilton, serving as vice president of operations and general manager over the course of her career.
“I saw it a few years ago, and this one is probably the best so far,” she said, adding that Shen Yun is not merely an artistic presentation, but a deeply spiritual experience.
Ms. Orr said the performance resonated with her on a spiritual level, conveying both serenity and inner strength.
“The spiritual element really resonates with a sense of calmness and the inner strength of the people,” she said. “Just through their performance, you can feel a kind of spiritual presence.”
She described feeling a closeness to heaven and the Creator during the performance, particularly in the final piece.
“‘Salvation’ was beautiful—absolutely beautiful,” she said. “It was amazing.”
“It’s very important to bring other worlds into ours,” she said, “so we can appreciate what we have more.”
She added that understanding China’s history as depicted on stage—where it once was and where it is today—can be deeply moving.
“It encourages people to be more compassionate, more empathetic, and more understanding of one another,” she said.
When recommending Shen Yun to friends, Ms. Orr said what sets it apart most is the dancers’ extraordinary precision and the production’s use of color to portray the universe.
“The precision of the dances and how the world and universe are portrayed through color—that’s what makes it so special,” she said.
“They are amazing,” she said. “They are the best group. Their gentleness, their respect—the whole group is just incredible.”
Ms. Orr attended the performance with Rich Fornshell, a retired General Motors car builder, who also praised several elements of the show.
“I thought the Water Sleeves dance was really good,” Mr. Fornshell said. “The Monkey King was also excellent. And I really enjoyed how the performers went into the screen and came back out.”
The screen Mr. Fornshell referred to is Shen Yun’s patented, high-tech animated backdrop, which synchronizes seamlessly with the live performance on stage.
What impressed him most, however, was the dancers’ precision.
“The precision of it all—the preciseness,” he said. “That’s what really stood out.”
