GUADALAJARA, Mexico—Timothy Welch saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on May 9, 2026, at Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas, Sala Plácido Domingo.
“The precision, the costumes, the music, the dance—everything was impressive,” said Mr. Welch, an active musician in Guadalajara for the last 26 years.
“I think it is very important because we should learn from all cultures. This is a culture that many people think they know a lot about, but they know nothing. And the history of this country and empire is impressive,” Mr. Welch said.
“Many shows use pre-recorded music. But here, that is worth a lot; when I saw the orchestra. It means so much for the musicians, but also for the audience,” Mr. Welch said.
One instrument that shone under the spotlight was the two-stringed erhu.
“It is the first time I’ve heard the instrument live, and she is very talented; plus, that instrument has a very different vibe that I loved,” Mr. Welch said, adding that he will be looking for more erhu music in his spare time.
“Thank you all for all the precision, because it was so professional, and it is very difficult to find that type of exactness in this world right now. And for that, I give many thanks,” Mr. Welch said.
