GLASGOW, UK—Aubrey and Valerie Moore saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on Feb. 5 at the SEC Armadillo.
“You’ve seen gymnasts, and it’s all tumblers, and it’s all very quick—but when these guys get off the stage, it’s almost [in] very slow motion.”
Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“The dancers make it look so effortless, and yet they must put in hours and hours and hours of practice. They make it look so, I wouldn’t say easy, but it’s so seamless,” said Mrs. Moore, a retired headmaster secretary.
“They’re almost moving as one,” Mrs. Moore said, adding that the dancers seemed to float as they moved across the stage.
“There’s loads of icons and stories. And it is so nice with the introduction of the two [emcees] telling us what’s going to happen and the background to it, and then you can sort of imagine what’s going on,” Mr. Moore said.
“It gives you the scope—the background scenario,” he added.
The costumes in Shen Yun were designed by Shen Yun’s artistic director, D.F. The costumes are all designed to match the fashion worn throughout the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.
“I’m just saying to my wife—the fantastic dresses—the costumes are really phenomenal. And just the colors [were] great,” Mr. Moore said.
