MÜLHEIM, Germany—Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage in the German city of Mülheim an der Ruhr on the evening of March 7. Audience members were impressed by the skills of the artists.

Klaus Böge, a doctor, said, “Wonderful. What a fantastic show, completely new and unfamiliar to us ... The combination of scenery and stage, acrobatics, gymnastics, dance—magnificent. And then the live music, it’s truly an amazing experience.”

Dr. Böge also appreciated Shen Yun’s use of special effects.

Matthias Kassack, a professor at the University of Dusseldorf, said, “I absolutely loved it. The dances were so amazing, the costumes so fantastic, it was so professional. It was truly, truly beautiful. I was thrilled.”

Natalia Moska, an accountant, said, “I loved the way it was all prepared, the way it flowed seamlessly from one piece to the next, the smooth transitions, and especially the instruments, those old instruments. It was magnificent. Everything just fit together perfectly, the dancers danced so beautifully, it really touched me.”

Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture and values, a heritage that was almost lost when the Communist regime took over China in 1949.

“Artistically speaking, I'd say this discipline in dance is incredible, what these young people bring to the stage. But I also find the underlying message compelling. That there’s a very long culture, a religious culture, which has certain overlaps with what I would call the positive aspects of Christianity, where we say there is hope and salvation,” Prof. Kassack said.

“I find it fascinating that people there are also searching for the Divine. And that this is unfortunately something that isn’t possible, at least not in mainland China right now. That’s very sad.”

Ms. Moska said, “I found that message very important and right, because today’s China presents a completely different picture. And I hope that someday, they will return to their origin, to that divine and completely different world they came from.”

“This statement, that we don’t just live in this world but also possess transcendent values, and that one can’t really cope well in life without this heavenly-divine orientation, I can relate to that,” Dr. Böge said.

Jens Moska, an engineer, said, “I believe everyone can take something away from that, that it’s simply sensible and important to be upright and, whatever you do, to do it correctly and not to the detriment of others.”

Shen Yun simultaneously tours the world with eight different companies. Each year they present a brand-new program with new music, dances, and choreography.

Ms. Moska said Shen Yun is “really about getting to know this life, this culture, this past, and also what you can take away from it, and experiencing it today. And it’s incredibly relaxing, and I just found it all fantastic and good. And you’re in a good mood afterward, and I had a slight headache beforehand, which is now gone. So in that sense, you just feel good afterward.”

“Check it out! It’s absolutely worth it and I think we'll be there again next year,” Prof. Kassack said.

Birgit Kassack, a pharmacist, said, “I will definitely tell my friends how great it was. Yes, I will certainly spread the word that we had a wonderful evening here.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Füssen, Germany, from April 7–12.
