Shen Yun Performing Arts gave five performances at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, between Jan. 27–30. Despite unusually cold weather in the area, audience members still came out to attend the performances, marveling at the artistry of the Shen Yun dancers.

Included in the audience was Grant Brantley, a senior judge with the Georgia Superior Court. “The entire show is so, so good,” Judge Brantley said. “The little narrative that was given at the very beginning was awesome for me, because it did help me understand what was going on with the dance.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism” through classical Chinese dance accompanied by a live orchestra. Some audience members said they felt inspired by Shen Yun’s storytelling.

Jolynn VanCamp, owner of an architecture company, said, “Never seen anything like it—ever. It’s just truly magical, that’s the only word I can think of. But it’s just beautiful and so synchronized, and people fly. You just are mesmerized. You go into a different world, and it’s beautiful, really beautiful.”

“And you can see the discipline that the athletes, dancers went through. It’s all of their hard work accumulated into just such a beautiful story, a beautiful show. I’ve loved it.”

Tim Le, the 4th Congressional District Representative for Georgia’s Department of Community Affairs, said, “This is my first time and it was amazing. During the whole performance, I was visualizing, imagining some of the things that I can apply to my own personal life.

“The sceneries, the [gracefulness] of the performance, the power, the energy that is put into each of the performers, it made me feel like I need to do something, and I want to create that environment where people can come and enlighten themselves, be part of this. This world that’s created for us inspired me.”

In addition to ancient myths and legends, Shen Yun also shows stories of modern-day courage under communist oppression.

Judge Brantley said, “Unfortunately, they cannot do it [faith] in China because of the form of government they have. And I find that to be a distressing fact. But otherwise, the performance was uplifting to me, just because of the energy in which they put into it.”

Mr. Le said “Everyone here, we get up, we try to be productive. We do something, we go to our jobs, we fight our fight. We go through the traffic, and so on and so forth. And we occupy ourselves with so many things that might not be relevant. So the thing is, take a step back, you know, and think about that divine place that is created for us.”

Shen Yun will continue its performances in Charlotte, North Carolina, through Feb. 20. Eight Shen Yun dance companies are simultaneously touring the world as part of its 2026 world tour.
