SEVILLE, Spain—For Juan Antonio Gutiérrez del Pozo, Shen Yun is a familiar name, as he walked out of the Cartuja Center Cite on March 25, with a big smile on his face. It was his third time watching the performance.

“It’s fantastic; this is the third year I’ve come, and each time I bring one more person with me. The first year I came alone, the second year I came with my girlfriend, this year I’ve come with my girlfriend and her daughter, so I’m happy,” Mr. Gutiérrez said.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based, world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Founded in 2006, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s traditional culture, which generations of Chinese people consider a gift from the Divine.

Mr. Gutiérrez described Shen Yun’s performance as “very sensitive, very luminous, very beautiful.”

In addition, Shen Yun presents the spirituality of traditional Chinese culture in a very vivid way, which Mr. Gutiérrez resonated with. “The performance also has a spiritual undertone, which is very important to me, because I’m convinced that human beings are more than just something material; rather, we have a soul that is eternal,” he said, adding: “therefore the most important thing we have is the soul, we are here to experience that soul, and that is also what the performance is about.”

Mr. Gutiérrez continued, “For me, it is very important, maybe not for other people, but for me, that is very important. And for the world, even more so, in the times we are living in now and those in the future.”

To those who have not watched Shen Yun, Mr. Gutiérrez would encourage them to watch. “I would tell them that it’s a performance full of beauty, color, radiance, and incredible joy, reflecting the traditions of an ancient culture—Chinese culture.”

“I would tell them that they shouldn’t miss it.”

Mr. Gutiérrez was very grateful for the Shen Yun artists as well. “I would say congratulations, thank you so much for the performance, keep doing it, never give up, stay creative, stay cheerful and colorful, reflect the traditions, never stop creating new performances and bring them to the world!”
