“It showcases a whole spirit, a whole heritage, and a taste of the richness of Chinese culture,” Martin Torres Gutierrez Rubio, head of the Mexican Trade Services Documentation and Cultural Office, said.
“Energy and happiness and sometimes your sentiments go up and down depending on the story. And their sketches are very intense and very nice,” Luís Cláudio Villafañe Gomes xxc, director of the Commercial Office of Brazil to Taipei, said.
“It’s also interesting that you have a combination of traditional musical instruments and also Western musical instruments, so it’s a very enlightening presentation,” Mr. Rubio said.
“I like very much the sketch about the Monkey King because it’s a very traditional Chinese story and it’s very universal,” Mr. Santos said. “The story where someone receives a gift, wisdom, and then comes back to their people to help and to be useful. So it’s a very nice story and the music is nice. The performance was very nice,” he said.
“They are very talented. They are very versatile and they are very inspiring,” Mr. Rubio added. “You can feel the way they’re breathing, they’re moving, [they have] a lot of energy. And the other one that I really enjoyed is the ladies from the Manchurian time in the Qing dynasty. That was very, very elegant. I really enjoyed the special shoes that they wear, the blue dresses, and also the music. It’s a very nice overview from the different dynasties, from such an ancestral heritage. It’s a very enjoyable show.”
Beyond the cultural immersion, the two representatives were impressed by the values and messages conveyed in the performance, and recommended their hometown audiences to see Shen Yun for themselves.
“In that heritage, there is also this spirit of inspiration in how you see the cosmos and how you apprehend the world,” Mr. Rubio said. “It makes you value what’s behind you. And in that respect, when you have that and you have the sensitivity to feel that, it showcases where you come from and where you are today.”
“The ideas, the feelings that it transmits are very universal. You can feel it in any culture, in any people,” Mr. Santos said. “I think that the Brazilian public will enjoy very much having a feeling of China, having a feeling of the Chinese culture and the music and the dancing and the customs and everything. So I think I truly recommend it.”
