FOLSOM, Calif.—Brian Morrison, a principal IT consultant, praised Shen Yun artists for presenting the spiritual beauty of traditional Chinese culture on stage after seeing the performance for the first time.
On the evening of Jan. 6, 2026, Mr. Morrison and his wife, Mary Morrison, attended Shen Yun’s second local performance at the Harris Center in Folsom, California.
Through classical dance, Shen Yun revives traditional culture that has been destroyed under the Chinese Communist regime. By vividly portraying China’s ancient, divinely inspired culture on stage, the performance offers many audience members an eye-opening experience—one that stands in sharp contrast to the atheism prevalent in China today.
“One thing I noticed is that they also believe humanity came from the divine. That hadn’t occurred to me before,” Mr. Morrison remarked.
He also said the depiction of heavenly realms in the performance was captivating and that it “just feels peaceful.”
Mrs. Morrison especially enjoyed Shen Yun’s classical Chinese dance and original costumes. Having danced herself in the past, she felt Shen Yun’s classical Chinese dance was unique.
She highlighted the production’s technically demanding choreography, saying, “The energetic dancing they do is beautiful. It’s absolutely beautiful—it’s stunning.”
Shen Yun also portrays the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China who uphold the values of truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance. Mrs. Morrison said the transition on stage from peaceful to harsh and brutal conveyed a powerful message that made her more aware of the reality in China today and left her deeply saddened.
In conclusion, Mr. Morrison said he loved all the elements of Shen Yun’s production, including the dancing, costumes, digital backdrop, and the stories that accompany the performances.
