BOISE, Idaho—Faith is a powerful thing and Shen Yun Performing Arts reminded the Knowles family that goodness will always prevail.

“I would say that love and kindness prevail over darkness, over evil. It was an amazing show,” said Lisa Knowles, the mother of seven children.

Shen Yun is based in New York and its artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.

“It was a worthwhile watch. Very skilled. Very neat to see the coordination. They’re like 12, or 13 people all acting like one. It was amazing. How in the world? They’re very skilled,” said Dave Knowles, the owner of a plumbing company.

Many people see the tumbling techniques in Shen Yun and assume that Shen Yun’s artists are trained in gymnastics but these techniques actually originate from classical Chinese dance.

“Absolutely. Incredible. Watch those flips. No hands. Amazing. I don’t know how they do that. It was fun,” Mr. Knowles said.

Each season, Shen Yun puts on an all-new production. And before each season’s tour begins, the artists rehearse tirelessly so that they can give their best to the audience.

“They were graceful. That’s a lot of effort they put into it. Obviously, I don’t know how long they practice before they go tour. How long do they practice?” Mr. Knowles asked.

The couple had been interested in seeing Shen Yun after seeing an ad. They made the four-hour trip from Walla Walla, Washington to catch Shen Yun in Boise.

“The ladies saw the advertising, and they’re very intrigued. So, we said let’s make it a special day. They did a great job performing. Very talented,” Mr. Knowles shared.

The Knowles family has a deep respect for God and they saw that same reverence for the divine in Shen Yun.

“The kindness. I think that ultimately, that’s what God calls us here for. … We are made in His image. And there’s a savior. He’s coming back,” Mr. Knowles said.

Shen Yun’s dances bring this hope to life, portraying the Creator giving people the opportunity to return to their home in the heavens.

“The heavenly thing? That’s our ultimate destination, right? We’re just here for a little bit,” Mr. Knowles said.
