WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Retired business owner Steve Voellinger attended Shen Yun for the first time on the evening of Feb. 2, at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach—and left spellbound. “Absolutely phenomenal, very enlightening … a lot of history,” he said, adding that he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Mr. Voellinger was especially impressed by the dancers’ skill and physical ability. He marveled at the performers’ technical excellence, noting how remarkable it was to see such athleticism and grace on stage.
The stories on stage convey profound messages and spiritual themes, which resonated deeply with Mr. Voellinger, who describes himself as spiritual but not religious. He said the show’s spiritual dimension enhanced his appreciation of the performance.
Accompanying him was his wife, Olga Voellinger, a retired JPMorgan Chase branch manager. Born in Cuba, Ms. Voellinger felt a powerful emotional connection to Shen Yun’s presentation of China before communism.
“It was very inspiring. I was born in Cuba, so this is very meaningful to me,” she said.
The uplifting experience left the Voellingers feeling inspired and full of hope. Both enthusiastically encouraged audiences to experience the show for themselves.
“Everyone should come and see it,” Mr. Voellinger said.
“I would say they have to come see it. It’s just the colors, the acting—it’s beautiful. They have to understand it’s good for them to see this part of China,” Ms. Voellinger added.
