SAN ANTONIO—Cuahuthemoc Gonzalez has featured Shen Yun Performing Arts on Radio La Nuestra many times, and on Jan. 9, he was delighted to experience the performance in person when Shen Yun’s 2026 world tour arrived at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
The evening marked Mr. Gonzalez’ second time attending the show.
“Everybody loves it. It’s a wonderful experience,” he said happily. Having the opportunity to see the performance firsthand, he added, “We get a chance to experience it so that we can share it with our audience.”
“I love the [singing], and I love the music part of it. Overall, it was just very well put together.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, dedicated to reviving China’s traditional culture as it was before it was destroyed by decades of communist rule. The company features story-based dances that showcase different parts of China’s regions as well as the essence of China’s history and culture.
Returning for the second time, Mr. Gonzalez is pleasantly surprised by the entirely new program. He especially enjoyed the company’s patented 3D technology that interacts seamlessly with the dancers on stage to render a whole new level of storytelling.
“Everything is different every year. It’s great that they do that,” he shared. “I really like the way [the artists] connected the special effects with some of the movement and some of the dances. It was choreographed very well.”

Also in the audience were entrepreneur Nick Khoury and his wife, Duritzi Davis. Mr. Khoury, also attending for the second time, enjoyed the performance as much as he did the first.
“This is an amazing show. Great artistry, great voices. We enjoyed it very, very much,” he said. “I love the costumes, that’s part of the whole show, the vibrant colors. The dancers are fabulous. Amazing, amazing athleticism. The whole thing is fabulous.”
Commenting on Shen Yun’s live orchestra that blends classical Western orchestration with traditional Chinese melodies and instruments such as the two-stringed erhu and pipa, an ancient lute, Mr. Khoury said, “I could have listened to it all night long. It’s great.”
He appreciates that the artists are dedicated to bringing back traditional values and China’s 5,000 years of divine-inspired culture.
“I’m not a big fan of the ruling in China and the communist party, but China is a fabulous country,” Mr. Khoury said. “So, to bring the culture of China to the West and show the West what it’s all about, it’s truly something very, very admirable, and I supported 100%.”
