LAS VEGAS—“I feel there’s a greater creation and purpose behind life,” education and talent development consultant Karen Deol shared of her reflections after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts.
On the evening of March 6, Ms. Deol attended a performance by Shen Yun’s North America Company at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas. She said the dancers’ exceptional artistry left a deep impression on her.
“I really liked the part about the Creator in the performance, because it reminds people that the origin of life is not something evolution alone can explain. We try to come up with different explanations of evolution, but the performance brought a deeper perspective. I thought that was very meaningful.”
“The art form is beautiful—they just glide,” Ms. Deol said. “I thought it was beautiful because the art form, the dance, the meaning, and the expression all came together.”
“I really loved it—absolutely loved it,” she added.
Ms. Deol also enjoyed the creative elements in the storytelling.
“I loved how they had the interactive element to it as well,” she said of Shen Yun’s patented special effect, where its storytelling on stage is integrated into the boundless realms of human imagination through use of screen animation. “I thought that was very powerful.”
“I thought it was very powerful that they showed that performance so we could get a real feel for what it’s like for people to have that opportunity taken away—to express their worldview and have the courage to stand by their beliefs,” she said.
She said the message resonated deeply with her and her husband.
“My husband and I talked about it during the intermission because we thought it was so powerful. Belief is part of who you are. Being able to meditate and live according to your beliefs—and to carry that forward—is really important.”
She further praised Shen Yun’s efforts to raise awareness around the world, as well as preserve and share traditional Chinese values.
“I think it’s super important because people outside of China don’t necessarily know what’s going on,” Ms. Deol said. “Keeping traditions alive is very important … traditions help you feel alive and help you understand who you are. It’s also very important for educating people around the world.”
“I want to know the history behind it,” she said. “I’m definitely going to read more about it.”
In the end, Ms. Deol said she would gladly recommend Shen Yun to others and expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the artists.
“I want to thank them for their time,” she said. “Performing takes a lot of effort, and it’s not easy to dance and express yourself on stage in front of people. I really respect the work they’ve done—you can tell they’ve put their heart and soul into it.”
