BRISBANE, Australia—Dr. Kim Bulwinkel, a top orthopedic surgeon from central Queensland, found Shen Yun Performing Arts showcased a “beautiful quality” when he attended a performance with his wife, Lena, at Brisbane’s QPAC on Feb. 27.

“[Shen Yun’s] fantastic. It’s visually striking—historically entertaining, and not a person is out of step. Beautiful quality, lovely costumes—I’m just very, very happy,” Dr. Bulwinkel said.

The doctor was impressed by the synchronicity of the dancers, saying that he wished people could be that synchronized in their everyday activities.

He said that the classical Chinese dance techniques on display in Shen Yun were “more expansive” than what he'd seen in other dance styles in Europe, where his wife hails from.
Based in New York, Shen Yun dancers are among the world’s best-trained in classical Chinese dance, an art form that has been refined over thousands of years to become one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
Moreover, Dr. Bulwinkel was particularly drawn to the message he found in Shen Yun, which aims to showcase and revive China’s 5,000-year-old civilization.

Shen Yun declares that it showcases “China before communism,” portraying China’s rich spiritual civilization before the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

“I think [Shen Yun’s] getting across the message,” Dr. Bulwinkel said. “I think that it’s unfortunate, but under the current politics, that’s the way it is. But politics will change.”

Mr. Bulwinkel thought that people should experience a Shen Yun performance.
“We’re very happy to see this taken up by the people in our society,” he said.

Community Leader Praises Shen Yun’s Efforts to Revive Traditional Chinese Culture

Also in attendance was Dr. Quang Bui, a general practitioner and president of Queensland’s Vietnamese community.
Dr. Bui was impressed by the traditional values presented by Shen Yun, including its showcasing of Chinese civilization before communism took power in 1949, when belief in the divine and the heavens were reflected in ancient Chinese people’s morality and culture.

“We should go back to the basics—love, compassion, and truthfulness,” he said.

Dr. Bui was particularly moved by the vignette that presented true events occurring in modern-day China. Specifically, the persecution and forced organ harvesting of Falun Dafa practitioners.

“I think that we should be talking more about that because the communists at the moment, the communists in China, steal the organs from the prisoners and also from the political practitioners to sell,” he said.

“People in the world are aware about that sort of problem. And we should keep talking about that.”

He added that communism “makes people different; it changes people completely.”

“And I think everybody should wake up and do something. I hope that peace will come to the world one day,” he said.
