PRAGUE, Czech Republic—Oldřich Dědek and his granddaughter, Samantha Dědková, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on April 19, 2026, at Prague Congress Center.

“I can’t imagine how much higher they could possibly rise; I feel they’ve already reached the pinnacle of artistry,” said Oldřich Dědek, the head of the Department of Macroeconomics and Econometrics at Charles University.

Shen Yun, based in New York, is on a mission to present “China before communism” and to revive people’s connection to 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and culture.

Mr. Dědek noted that Shen Yun brings a “beauty that is entirely different from Czech traditions,” and that “seeing such world art and traditions is truly inspiring.”

Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
Ms. Dědková was particularly captivated by the men’s Mongolian dance, praising the performers as “truly outstanding” and noting that “those jumps were really exciting.”

Ms. Dědková is a top performer in the youngest category of Czech rhythmic gymnastics who won first place in the team competition for the youngest age group at the 2024 Czech Republic Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.

Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The technology’s versatility allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye, giving the stage endless possibilities.

“Everything is simply wonderful. The combination of cutting-edge technology, background projections (dynamic backdrops), and live dance is flawless and breathtaking. I was impressed a year ago, and I’m still thoroughly enjoying it this time,” Mr. Dědek said.

Upon learning that Shen Yun cannot perform in China, Mr. Dědek “felt very sad,” noting, “It’s truly strange and saddening. I hope this situation will change in the future.”
