NEW YORK—Shen Yun Performing Arts gave another performance to a receptive audience at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on April 13. Peter Esposito, a director of cybersecurity, and his wife Karen, a retired teacher, enjoyed the dances and how they were presented.

Mr. Esposito said, “I love the combination of the dance and the film behind it: The way the characters come off the stage and in,” and enjoyed the dancers’ energetic movement. “They had a lot of energy. There’s no way I could do anything like that,” he said.
Mrs. Esposito enjoyed “Sleeves of Grace” and how the dancers could elegantly move while pulling in the long sleeves: “I like the yellow flowers, the beautiful flower dance.” As an experienced educator, she exclaimed how edifying Shen Yun was “for the arts [and history].”

She said she appreciated the skill and technique of all the dancers.

“They’re synchronized perfectly. They really look like they worked very hard to just get this whole show going,” she said.

Mr. Esposito said the story-dance “The Restaurant” conveyed a spirit of cooperation. “It’s a little funny and was easy to follow. They came together. They helped the restaurant owner get his restaurant back in operation. They saved everyone’s jobs.”

Through classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun is sharing with the world the beauty of China’s authentic 5,000 years of history. Since its founding in 2006, the company has received worldwide accolades for its mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.

Mrs. Esposito commented on Shen Yun’s mission of reviving China’s lost heritage. “It’s a very good culture.”

Mr. Esposito agreed that China’s culture has a long history, adding, “it was surprising to hear that you wouldn’t be able to see this in China.”

He said the performers “studied in New York, and they’re doing a great job. You can see all the hard work and time they put into it. It’s beautiful.”

CFO says: Shen Yun Dancers Are ‘Very Accomplished, Very Technical, Very Entertaining’

Chief financial officer of a real estate company, David Diamond enjoyed many aspects of Shen Yun’s performance. “Very creative. It’s very creative. I like it. I like the sets and the dancing.”

Several stories told in dance impressed and inspired him. “I think the one with the school, that’s very good. A good story and good dancing.”

Mr. Diamond shared why he decided to see Shen Yun. “My sister wanted to see this for a very long time. And I wanted to see a Chinese show. Very nice. It’s very different. I mean, I expected something like what I saw, but I never saw it before.”

He had positive words for the fine technique and expertise of the dancers.

“Everyone, all the dancers, the men and the women: very accomplished, very technical, very entertaining,” he said.

As Shen Yun’s mission is to revive a lost heritage, Mr. Diamond said of its mission to benefit people with China’s history and heritage, “I think everybody on stage is doing a wonderful job in entertaining and introducing [the audience] to Chinese culture. It’s good to show to international audiences.”

“I thought everyone has done a wonderful job. You could see that they’re well prepared. And [the audience] is very respectful of their accomplishments and excellent job,” he said.

With shows scheduled in over 200 cities and across five continents, the 2024 touring season is shaping up to be the artists’ busiest yet.
