NEW YORK—Shawn and Linda Alfano came for an artistic experience but found so much more at Shen Yun Performing Arts at the David H. Koch Theater on March 28.
Mr. Alfano, an attorney, enjoyed the educational aspects and said, “I was coming for the art, which it does have; I can also see some explanations behind the culture, which is nice.”
“It brings faith, more of a human type of approach—your faith and what you believe in—and it was touching. The way she sang it and was reading the words, it was moving,” she said.
He appreciated the story “Scholarly Affection,” where a young woman did everything possible to obtain an education, going so far as to disguise herself as a boy to enter school.
Financial Consultant Says Shen Yun ‘Fantastic’

Joseph Scali, a financial consultant, and his wife, Jennifer, were very impressed. “It’s so much better than we expected,” he said. “It just gave us a different look into the Chinese culture with all the dancing and the music. It’s fantastic.”
Shen Yun tours the world to share 5,000 years of traditional culture from “China before communism.” People who see it have a better understanding of Chinese culture. The communist regime bans Shen Yun from appearing in China.
Mr. Scali saw the capacity crowd at the performance. “Yes, it’s a full house, and I think it just opened my eyes to a lot of things about what’s going on in the world, in China, and here in the States. We love it, and it’s great to be here.”
