MONTERREY, Mexico—Shen Yun Performing Arts graced the stage in Monterrey, Mexico, on April 25, taking audiences on a journey through ancient China. Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with each performance accompanied by a live orchestra and patented digital backdrop.

“It’s a magnificent experience because it encompasses not only the essence of dance, but also the philosophy that has been revealed to us over the years from those times. And that even today, there is still a need to express it,” Nora Argelia Aguilera González, a college professor, said.

“The use of colors, the costumes, the coordination, the integration of the set design with the visual and choreographic elements, is something unique. And above all, that interactivity keeps people engaged, and allows them to participate in the performance itself, even if just from their seat,” she added.

Geraldo Villarreal Mori, an architect, said, “Well, I loved it. I’m simply thrilled because I’ve never seen anything like it before. The magic of Chinese culture [is] reflected through the technologies they’re using in the United States, in New York, and I congratulate them on all the good things they do, bringing families together and boosting economic development. If they could perform in more places, because honestly, I loved it from the very first moment they started.”

Silvia Tames, a lawyer, said, “You see the women floating, it seems like they aren’t walking, it looks like they float across the stage. And the young men move on stage with such delicacy and grace that it is truly rewarding and delightful.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from “China before communism,” which resonated with many of the audience members.

Mr. Mori said, “For me, so far, it’s giving me a sense of hope. We’re living in very turbulent times, with so many wars everywhere, so much violence, and this helps. It shows that together, we can usher in a new phase.”

Ms. Tames said, “It is an experience you truly have to live. You cannot miss it. It is very much worth it, and believe me, you will come out different. You enter one way, and you will surely leave with an experience that you will want to make part of your life.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Mexico City from April 30–May 3 and Guadalajara from May 6–10.
