PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil—On the evening of May 9, Edson Peixoto and his wife Angelita, a physician, said Shen Yun Performing Arts, which was showing at the Teatro FIERGS, was “fantastic.”

“The harmony throughout the entire performance, it was well rehearsed, and the artists are all first class,” Mr. Peixoto, a seasoned musician who studied viola under several esteemed masters and has long served in one of Brazil’s most prestigious symphony orchestras, praised.

Mr. Peixoto especially lauded Shen Yun’s symphony orchestra, which blends Chinese and Western classical instruments.

“A perfect combination—incredible. The execution was excellent, and there was a balance among the instruments. Very cool, fantastic,” he said.

Dr. Peixoto also expressed her admiration for the performance.

“I loved it. It was so beautiful—the synchronization, the dance ... absolutely delightful,” she said.

Dr. Peixoto also agreed with the traditional belief that good music has a healing effect, which Shen Yun’s emcees had shared during the performance.

“I believe it’s true. It really does,” she said.

She also commended Shen Yun’s innovative high-tech dynamic backdrop, which allows performers to seamlessly enter and exit the scenery.

“I found it impressive!” she said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”

Despite cultural differences, Mr. Peixoto said he felt a connection to the traditional values presented in the performance.

“Even though our cultures are different, we respect it,” he shared. “The concept is akin to our Western religious culture; there are similarities. It’s just that everyone believes in truth in a unique way.”

At the conclusion of the evening, the couple expressed their admiration for the artists.

“I congratulate them, because this is a first-class spectacle,” Mr. Peixoto said. “I wish them to continue believing in their work, which is wonderful and brings joy to people. This is art, and it is important to spread art as widely as possible.”
