NEW YORK CITY—On the evening of April 11, Shen Yun Performing Arts presented its 17th performance of the season at the Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, once again to a sold-out audience. Among those in attendance was Betty Hong, a Chinese-American paralegal who has followed Shen Yun for 20 years. She shared that the performance not only inspires her, but also brings positivity to her life.
Ms. Hong reflected on her love for what Shen Yun offers. “I came to America to study and later settled here as an immigrant. During my 35 years in the United States, I’ve been attending Shen Yun for 20 years,” she said.
“It’s an excellent program—it has both artistic value and a sense of justice,” she added, saying that her three children, parents, husband, and colleagues have also enjoyed the performance.
Having followed Shen Yun for two decades, Ms. Hong described its uplifting effect on her life. “Shen Yun is truly magical—it really lives up to its name. After watching the show, I feel energized and upright, never negative. Even in difficult times, I can overcome challenges. Shen Yun is wonderful,” she said.
She encourages others to attend as well. “I encourage adults to bring children and the elderly. It’s good for the elderly’s health. I bring my 92-year-old mother every year. I believe Shen Yun deserves to be promoted—every Chinese in New York should see it at least once,” she said.
She added that Shen Yun holds special meaning for Chinese communities. “Wherever there are Chinese communities, Shen Yun is there. We are Chinese, and we should be proud of our culture,” Ms. Hong said.
