Shen Yun Performing Arts gave three performances at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Feb. 17–18. This marks the company’s 19th consecutive year performing at the venue, making it a highly anticipated artistic event within the local community.

“I think it’s a beautiful celebration of life in general, and it’s encapsulated in such a dynamic way with beauty and depth and divinity. So well done on bringing it all together and making it seem just like a beautiful composition of life,” company CEO Kristen Connell said.

“The music brought tears to my eyes. It really had a frequency. I just felt like it touched you in a way that was so deep, and I had little tears in my eyes. It was nothing specific, but the frequency of the music really did reach deep down and touch my soul.”

Ricardo Nigro, a club manager, said, “It’s beautiful when you go to the show. Different styles, different cultures. It’s always good to see people perform different arts. This is great, especially the visual effects. I loved it.”

Frances Rhodis, founder and owner of an interior designer company, said, “It’s very fluid; the arm movements, the fabrics, the textures of each of the materials they used, and the bright colors. It’s beautiful, just pure beauty in the way they portrayed the performance. I really loved it.”

Amanda Gore, a motivational speaker, said, “There’s such grace and beauty and exquisite energy in it. And there’s such a wonderful storyline and thread, and it’s so expressive and beautiful. It’s just wonderful.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional culture from “China before communism,” through classical Chinese dance and music. Audience members resonated with the beauty, the energy, and a sense of the divine conveyed in the performance.

Ms. Connell said, “You can feel them moving the energy; curating and pulling the energy into the room. And I felt like it was impacting and affecting all of us. It was really shifting the frequency. I knew we went on a journey, a little bit high, a little bit low, but it was done so well that you really understood more about the culture, more about what has occurred, and just a deeper understanding of people—our soul, our spirit in general—but also what China has been going through. It really was a beautiful story and one that is still ongoing, so we’re still in the story.”

Ms. Connell added, “I am spiritual, but I could say the messaging was for anyone. It doesn’t necessarily have to be for someone spiritual. It really does touch you in a deeper way, to maybe even investigate what else is out there and how to live in a way that’s more true or authentic, less selfish, and more outwardly focused on how to bring people together in a kind, compassionate way.”

Ms. Rhodis noted a deep spiritual dimension to Shen Yun. “I find it very beautiful and a wonderful message to the community, but also a beauty behind the arts of the colors and the aspects and the dance which is trying to portray and also to amplify and make the audience understand Asian culture, which is beautiful,” she said.

Luciana Houlf, a mental health counselor, said, “The first opera singer reminded me of a lot of current events that are going on right now. So I was able to resonate with that, and that was very powerful. And it was actually good; it’s a good feeling.”

Daniel Houlf, a clinical social worker, said, “Each of the songs had a strong moral message. I thought one of the messages was: always being kind to others, treating people well. And then also a spirituality element too, which was beautiful. It was really well integrated.”

Ms. Gore said, “There’s compassion, truthfulness, and forbearance, and they were all modeled beautifully in all the stories. I couldn’t remember them all, but I was struck with the compassion in so many of them. And it’s such powerful truths that it would really benefit everybody to see.”

Shen Yun will be performing next in Charlotte, Indianapolis, McAllen, Little Rock, and San Juan, and returns to Miami, Florida, on March 13 as it continues its 2026 world tour of North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
