NEW YORK—James Lindsay, a bestselling author and well-known commentator, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 25 at The David H. Koch Theater
“The whole thing is special. It’s an amazing show. It’s an amazing story to see China before communism depicted in dance,” Mr. Lindsay said.
“It’s a powerful experience for audience members. And the message is a very important message, which is that there is a traditional culture in China and there are traditional cultures all over the world, and that communism is a threat to those cultures,” said Mr. Lindsay, who described himself as a professional anti-communist.
When the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) came to power in 1949, it systematically destroyed and distorted traditional Chinese culture.
“It’s a very inspiring story. I’m familiar with the circumstances. To see it portrayed so vividly and interactively was a very powerful emotional experience,” Mr. Lindsay said.
Mr. Lindsay appreciated seeing “how the CCP stepped in and caused a problem. And then, [Shen Yun presented] this message of resounding hope that there’s change available.”
“This is a world-class production,” he added.
Mr. Lindsay understands how evil and dangerous the CCP is. He commends Shen Yun for protecting Chinese culture and standing up for what is right.
“They’re very courageous, and I’m very grateful for the things that they do. The show that they put on is incredible and important and [they should] never stop doing it.”
“I know some of the stories about how the communists came in the 50s and destroyed the traditional martial arts of China. Mao Zedong said we’re going to have this culture back after he just destroyed so much. So all these frauds and charlatans came in, and they ruined what was beautiful.”
