MELBOURNE, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted audience members at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on March 14. Among the attendees was Australian Senator Ralph Babet, who commented on his experience after watching the show.

“I thought it was absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed it. It was very interesting. I love the story. The acrobatics were amazing,” Senator Babet said.

On Feb. 24, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his residence following a bomb threat made against him and other high-ranking officials, just days before Shen Yun was set to perform in Australia. The New York-based performing arts company has been a target of Beijing for years.

“Horrible. Absolutely disgusting even. I mean, we live in Australia. This is a free democratic country and in this country, you should be free to practice whatever you like, watch whatever you like. And honestly, that people that are aligned to the CCP would threaten an Australian Prime Minister because he wouldn’t pull a show or say something negative about a show—which I thought was excellent—is a terrible thing,” he said.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture that was almost lost under communism. For presenting “China before communism” and stories of the Chinese communist regime’s brutal persecution of faith, Shen Yun currently cannot perform in China today.

“If you look at the story of the Falun Gong, I mean, what do they preach? Compassion, meditation, and they’re being persecuted. And I think it’s atrocious, and I would love it to stop. I don’t think it will stop anytime soon, but the more awareness that we can raise, the better it is,” the senator said.

“And I would love it if the CCP would stay within the borders of China and not reach their tentacles over here. I’ve talked about this a few times now. And I think that the Chinese people, the people of Chinese heritage, the Australian people, should absolutely get out there and watch this show. It was an amazing show and I recommend it highly.

“For the life of me, I don’t understand why the CCP would have wanted to block something like this. It’s a little bit ridiculous, if you ask me. I enjoyed it fully and people at home, if you’re thinking about coming, come on down, check it out. I think there’s some shows in Sydney coming up.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Sydney, Australia, from March 20–29.
