NEW YORK—Joseph Riggio, a lawyer, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 25 at The David H. Koch Theater
“I thought it was wonderful. … It had its beautiful moments, and it had a beautiful spectrum of feelings and colors,” Mr. Riggio said.
“I loved learning about Chinese culture, particularly. It was very interesting to learn about the culture and the suffering,” Mr. Riggio said.
Mr. Riggio expressed that seeing what China was like before communism made him wish he could visit the country. But under the current regime, he would never enter the country.
“I don’t want to go to China. I don’t believe in their government. I don’t trust it. I don’t want to have to bribe politicians or police officers to get out of jail for something I didn’t do. I would never go to China,” he said.
“I got to see a political view, a moral view, expressed through dance, through colors, through art, and you walk away feeling good, feeling new, feeling enlightened and excited that something like this could actually happen. It’s very beautiful. And I would encourage other people to come see this if they haven’t seen it already,” Mr. Riggio said.
Having grown up in a post communist country, “ Mr. Riggio has experienced first hand what communism is and how it tries to instill its ideology in the younger generations.
“They tried to sucker us in school, even when I was younger. When I was young, you'd see [people] escaping communism, so nobody, even the professors, nobody really believed it,” he said.
However, Mr. Riggio observed that the younger generation of today seems to have bought into the idea that communism is superior to capitalism.
