PHOENIX, Arizona—On the afternoon of March 5, Judy Holzfaster, an account executive responsible for IT and software sales, attended the opening performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts in Phoenix with her granddaughter, Gynesis Gerth, at Symphony Hall. Deeply impressed by the company’s artistry, Ms. Holzfaster also praised the uplifting message conveyed through the performance.

“I loved it. It’s the best—absolutely the best. It’s the best show I ever saw,” she said. Reflecting on the themes expressed through the dances, she added, “I think the message is love, faith, and happiness.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive China’s traditional culture from before communism—something Ms. Holzfaster said the performance portrayed truthfully.

“I think that’s very true,” she said. “Of course, communism is the worst. Culture, and love, and happiness are the exact opposite of communism, and that’s what they portray.”

Speaking about how the performance made her feel, Ms. Holzfaster said Shen Yun brings audiences a sense of positivity and renewal.

“You come in with the pressures of the outside world and negativity, and then you see this and go out completely different—happy and satisfied.”

She also expressed her admiration for Shen Yun’s high artistic level.

“The colors, the acting, the acrobatics, and the stories—they were fabulous,” she said, adding that every piece left a strong impression.

Ms. Holzfaster said the performance left her feeling uplifted and inspired.

“It’s a very heartwarming show. It makes you happy, it makes you glad you’re alive, and it makes you feel more passionate about the people around you. I would summarize it as loving and happy, giving you a feeling of warmth, peace, and joy.”

Ms. Holzfaster said she would strongly recommend Shen Yun to family and friends.

“I’d tell them they have to see it—it’s a must. The word would be ‘life-changing.’”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. Since its founding in 2006, the company has presented an entirely new program each year, captivating audiences worldwide.
