BOURNEMOUTH, UK—Craig and Andrea Cousins enjoyed “their best Christmas present” at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre, where audience members were in awe of Shen Yun Performing Arts’ soul-stirring dance and music.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Established in 2006, the company strives to revive traditional Chinese culture that is being destroyed in China.

Owners of a construction company, Mr. and Mrs. Cousins thoroughly enjoyed the performance. “It’s like a trip through history books in a very gentle and beautiful way.” Mrs. Cousins said after watching the show.

“Everything looked perfect. All on time. Amazing to watch!” Mr. Cousins said, “It was beautiful, amazing choreography, very enjoyable.”

Preserving 5,000 years of Chinese culture, built on traditional aesthetics, classical Chinese dance is a vast and distinctly Chinese dance form with expressive movements and high-caliber athleticism.

Mrs. Cousins thought that the Shen Yun dancers were “incredible and unbelievable.” She was “in awe by the synchronicity [between the dancers] and the orchestra.”

With the expressiveness of classical Chinese dance, Shen Yun is able to bring the ancient legends and modern stories to life on stage. Mr. Cousins said, “I love the way the stories are told without words.” And with the interactive backdrop, it was “beautiful, absolutely beautiful.”
Mrs. Cousins was very impressed by the two-string instrument (erhu), “Absolutely moving. I could have listened to it much, much longer,” she said.
Shen Yun depicts the profundity of Chinese traditional culture and its spirituality through the universal language of dance and music, thus connecting people of different backgrounds.

“I love the spiritual background, the connection to religion, and how connected to these days, because there is a lack of faith and hope,” Mrs. Cousins said, “that was a beautiful connection.”
