SEVILLE, Spain—“I found it absolutely wonderful—truly amazing!” advertising photographer Javier Jiménez said after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts at the theatre. “From the moment the curtain rose, with that scene of clouds and color, I was completely taken in.”

On the evening of March 26, Mr. Jiménez attended the fourth performance of the Shen Yun Global Company at the Cartuja Center CITE in Seville, Spain.

As a professional photographer, he was especially struck by the production’s vibrant palette and uplifting atmosphere, describing it as an artistic experience filled with “happiness and light.”

“In my work, I often see that modern visual art tends to be quite dark,” he said. “But this is the opposite—it’s all light and color. That’s what impressed me the most.”

He praised the staging and visual design, noting how each scene unfolded with its own charm. “From the very beginning, the stage—with its colors and clouds—captivated me. Every scene has something special, and each one brings a new surprise.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”
Classical Chinese dance is renowned for its incredible flips and spins, as well as its refined, gentle elegance. With its extraordinary expressive power, this art form enables Shen Yun to vividly retell stories from China’s history, literary heritage, and its rich tapestry of myths and legends.

Mr. Jiménez marveled at the dancers’ technical precision. He observed that despite executing demanding jumps and flips, they seemed to land almost silently. “It’s incredible—we were even wondering if they were floating,” he said. “When they come down, you don’t hear a sound. The elegance and precision are remarkable.”

He pointed to the “Water Sleeves” dance as his favorite. “So beautiful,” he said. “That kind of beauty is moving in itself.” He added that both the male and female dancers were outstanding, and that the humorous elements in some of the stories added a light and enjoyable dimension to the performance.

Mr. Jiménez highlighted the innovative digital backdrop as another standout feature. “There’s a moment when a character transforms from old to young in an instant—it’s stunning. That transition really surprised me.”
Shen Yun’s live orchestra also left a deep impression. Recalling one scene, he said, “The music was beautiful. There was a moment when a boy falls to the ground, and a solo violin comes in—soft, like falling rain. It was very moving.”

Reflecting on his overall impression of Shen Yun, Mr. Jiménez said, “This performance gives you a sense of happiness. I’ve seen many shows—some are beautiful but they can feel heavy. This one is different. It’s joyful, bright—it makes you feel good.”

He emphasized that such uplifting art is rare today. “Even advertisements now tend to be dark,” he said. “Something like this—full of light—is not common anymore. That’s what makes it special.”

In closing, Mr. Jiménez expressed his appreciation for the performers. “It must take an enormous amount of work to create something like this,” he said. “I just want to thank them for bringing us such a beautiful performance.”

He also strongly recommended the show: “Don’t miss it. It’s something different, full of joy—and it’s really worth experiencing in person.”
