MIAOLI, Taiwan—On Feb. 25, 2023, Shen Yun Performing Arts performed in Miaoli, Taiwan, attracting local, political, and business elites, including former Miaoli County Mayor Liu Cheng-hung and legislator Chen Chao-ming. The audience appreciated that New York-based Shen Yun “promotes peace” and “inspires human thinking.”

Miaoli is a large Hakka county located in the north. Shen Yun attracted theatergoers far and wide, including people from Vietnam.

“The performance was done very well!” said former mayor of Miaoli County, Liu Cheng-hung who attended the performance with his wife. The couple complimented the dancers as well as “the performance’s promotion of peace.” He added that he hopes everyone will strive for peace. Mr. Liu also recommended that people experience Shen Yun and that one day, people on both sides of the Taiwan strait can live in peace together.

Legislator Chao-Ming Chen said he was touched by Shen Yun and that “the portrayal of the historic characters, the music and other aspects of the performance were of very high quality.”

“Every piece was very impressive. The content was very rich, from the Creation of the earth, to the scenes of different eras, and each piece contained great depth, so each one was very touching,” said Mr. Chen.

He added his appreciation for Shen Yun sharing the “genuine Chinese culture, showing what classic beauty is, and presenting the culture of each period. Shen Yun did a very good job in these aspects.”

He also said Shen Yun’s beautiful backdrops were thought-provoking, and that watching the performance can help people “think about human nature.”

Guo-shou Shen, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Gong Memorial Hospital, used two words to sum up his experience watching Shen Yun: “Joy and peace!”

Mr. Shen commented that the tumbling techniques performed by the dancers are very difficult, but in terms of impressiveness “but the main thing is their faith. The faith in the hearts of the artists are helping them and encouraging them to work hard.”

It is often said that “one minute on stage is ten years of work off stage,” but Mr. Shen believes that for Shen Yun artists, it should be “ten minutes on stage and one lifetime offstage.” Mr. Shen explained that although these artists may one day leave the stage, they “will be doing sacred work for the rest of their lives.”

“It is clear that these artists are extraordinary. They have been practicing their art since they were children, but they are extraordinary,” said Mr. Shen.

Mr. Shen shared his belief that Shen Yun is special because of how well each element of the performance can work in harmony iwth the rest. “The overall cooperation of the artists,” including the orchestra’s musicians, the dancers on stage, as well as the lighting and presenters, “the overall coordination is seamless and flawless,” he said.

Mr. Shen also emphasized the feeling of divinity that Shen Yun brought to him, “We were amazed by their technique, but most importantly, it was the smiles on their faces and the beauty. It’s because Shen Yun is the work of God.”
“Shen Yun expresses the essence of Chinese culture on stage in a living way, so Shen Yun’s work is not short term, but long term. It is clear that Shen Yun is a disciplined group and with youthful energy because the artists are young. This lets us think that this work of God is continuous,” said Mr. Shen.
At the same time, Mr. Shen also expressed his admiration for Shen Yun’s artistic director,
“The artistic director has done a great job in maintaining the company, and paying attention to the details. We can see that the performance was flawless and amazing, and we can feel the artistic director’s silent work. Since we are opening up after the pandemic, Shen Yun’s arrival gives people something to rely on, so I have great admiration for the artistic director,” said Mr. Shen.
Mr. Shen expressed his wish to recommend Shen Yun to all his friends. “Shen Yun is an event for the young because the artists on stage are all young. I hope that those who are still living in anxiety will come here and see that besides being professional, we can trust our hearts with these young people.”

“I believe that every individual in Shen Yun is not only doing their work, but are also fulfilling their mission. This mission will be felt by the hearts in the audience. Mr. Shen emphasized, ”The whole performance allows young people to feel alive and with vitality, there is peace of mind.”
