CHICAGO—The world famous Shen Yun Performing Arts gave an exhilarating performance for its opening night at the Civic Opera House in downtown Chicago. One couple found that many aspects of the show made for an enjoyable evening.

“I’m just amazed at the energy that’s put into the dancing,” said John Hoban, a general contractor.

It’s very colorful,” added his wife, Cheryl. “It’s very creative.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts presents a unique blend of classical Chinese artistry inspired by the myths and legends of Chinese culture and history. Viewers are often struck by how moving such an ancient art form can be.

“The women are very elegant; the men are strong. Amazing, very strong and powerful. The women are just floating out there” John observed.

“It’s graceful,” Cheryl added.

“Yes, very elegant; like acrobatics, almost,” John replied.

But it isn’t just the performance style that makes this show unique. Many theatergoers, like the Hobans, are also captivated by the ornate period costumes and detailed sets.

“I love the costumes,” exclaimed Cheryl. “The colors, the sparkle and the design of them. I think that’s a big part of the show. It’s just beautiful.”

“They add to the entertainment,” said John.

Shen Yun Performing Arts returns for two more shows at the Civic Opera House tomorrow. It comes highly recommended.

“I’d recommend it for the culture,” said John.

“Definitely see it. It’s beautiful,” Cheryl added.
