PARIS, France—On Wednesday April 26, Mrs. Arboux, a lawyer, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts with her family at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

Accompanied by two of her daughters and her granddaughter, the lawyer was touched by Shen Yun’s artists: “Committed, courageous people! They communicate a message through their art, I’m won over! It’s a complete show—because there is the beauty of the colors, the beauty of the movements, the beauty of the message, there is everything!”
This lawyer and author of the book “The Spirituality of Jean-Jacques Rousseau” was sensitive to the values conveyed in the show and immediately noticed the values of truth, kindness,  and patience.

“That’s what I was saying to my daughters earlier on: it’s very much in line with Christianity. Truth, goodness, patience, in those three words, there is everything, no need for anything else.”

For Mrs. Arboux, the connection to the divine expressed in many of the danced narratives can be explained: “In the 1960s Larousse dictionary, it is indicated that the Chinese emperors were the sons of heaven. At the beginning of the show, we can see this great white angel, this savior.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company and has a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through the arts.

Aurélie Velgue, a company legal director, attended a performance with her family to discover the best of classical Chinese dance and music.

Shen Yun was “very rich, very beautiful, with magnificent costumes, a lightness, a gracefulness of the dancers!” said Mrs. Velgue who enjoyed Shen Yun’s music, especially the solo performance of the erhu, an ancient two-stringed instrument.
Of the various story-based pieces, Mrs. Velgue said she was particularly moved by the dance narrative about the current persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in contemporary China. This Buddhist meditation discipline based on the principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance has been subject to brutal persecution by the communist regime in China since 1999.

“It is a relevant subject that touches us today. We understand there can be suffering—of not being able to live one’s faith as one would like. That can be a source of a lot of suffering.”

She added, “Regardless of religions, traditional cultures are what make a people’s wealth!”

In addition to the erhu soloist, the attorney also enjoyed the baritone soloist.

“It was very powerful,” she said, commenting on the content of the lyrics. “It’s important to live by them [the traditional values] in a modern society, as well as to keep these human values alive because that is what actually makes us good and caring human beings!”
