SALZBURG, Austria—Traveling from Munich, Germany, Andreas and Mariana Schmidt, who work in real estate, said that the exciting advertising for Shen Yun Performing Arts, “really has been absolutely fulfilled.”

The Schmidts attended the Shen Yun performance at the Large Festival Hall in Salzburg, Austria, on Feb. 12.

“To see this beautiful part of this culture, to experience it, from the music, from the dances … was very well done … excellent,” said Mr. Schmidt.

Not only was traveling to see Shen Yun a little present for themselves, but Mrs. Schmidt also said the performance was itself a surprising gift.

“For me, it was a surprise, a gift, and it was very impressive,” she said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company.

Since the company’s inception in 2006, its mission has been to revive China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture. Presenting folk dances, solo performances and story-based pieces that tell tales from ancient times to the modern-day, Shen Yun says its performance demonstrates “China before communism.”

“It was very inspiring,” said. Mr. Schmidt, “to see … not only the colorful pictures, but also what’s behind it.”

“[Shen Yun] unites many beliefs, and that’s what I think is very good,” he said, “[it] gives something to every person of faith … very positive.”

China was once known as “The Land of the Divine” and Shen Yun presents this culture by drawing upon the Middle Kingdom’s Buddhist and Daoist philosophies. As such, the performance often includes spiritually uplifting messages, according to the company’s website.
Mr. Schmidt said that the message Shen Yun is delivering is “urgently needed” in our society.

“[It] gives strength … and gives joy,” he added.
