Medical experts are warning people to avoid certain weight loss drugs prior to surgery as they could result in complications during the procedure.

Weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Trulicity should not be used by patients prior to elective surgery to reduce the risk of complications when using anesthesia, the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) said in a June 29 press release. Both these drugs are used by people for treating Type 2 diabetes and weight loss. They work by delaying stomach emptying, reducing hunger, and minimizing how much people eat.
