A desperate dog with heavy dreadlocks full of fleas and worms got a jaw-dropping makeover after a visit to the groomer for her very first shave.

Nine-year-old Hungarian puli Bundaš was found by a concerned family chained up by her owner in Novi Sad, Serbia. Bundaš had been bought as a puppy and spent her entire life in chains. As a result, she was in terrible health and was weighed down by her heavy coat—typical of her breed—that had never been maintained.

The family members–Aleksandra, Kristina, and Joca–decided to rescue Bundaš from her life of misery and took her into their home with six other dogs. After treating her for various diseases, including heartworm, they took Bundaš to Grooming Studio LeNi on Feb 21, where the sweet-natured dog met groomer and Novi Sad native Adrijana Farkaš.

“[Bundaš] was definitely the dog in the worst condition that we had done,” Adrijana, 29, told The Epoch Times. “While she was small and cute, she was loved. As the dog grew and as more and more time had to be devoted to maintaining her coat–the Hungarian Puli requires a lot of effort to keep the coat and skin healthy–so the dog was more and more left to herself and to nature.”

Bundaš was “a hero,” Adrijana said. After battling her disease, all that stood between the brave dog and her new life was the need for a new haircut.

“We were honestly afraid of how the chained dog would behave in the salon, how she would react to the sounds, but Bundaš surprised us all again and behaved unexpectedly well,” Adrijana, who opened her salon in 2022, said. “On several occasions, she tried to get off the table but with the many kisses and hugs she received ... she realized that we wanted to help, and after that, she constantly licked my hands as if she wanted to thank me for helping her.”

The epic grooming session lasted for a total of five hours and was filmed by Adrijana’s husband and business partner, Banta, for their YouTube channel.

“When we called Aleksandra and Kristina to come pick her up, they couldn’t recognize her,” Adrijana said. “It was a very emotional moment.”

Initially, the family that helped her thought they would allow Bundaš to stay for a while with them and then eventually put her up for adoption. However, their love for her grew and they decided to make her a part of their family.

Two months after the incredible makeover, Adrijana visited Bundaš to take a few pictures of her so that her followers could be updated on how she was doing.

“When I appeared at the gate, Bundaš ran into my arms as if she had known me all her life, and I was overwhelmed by emotion,” the grateful groomer said. “I realized how much gratitude that dog showed me, it’s something incredible.”

Adrijana grew up in the countryside with her grandparents after losing her mother in a traffic accident as a child. It was there that her love for animals first grew. Later, she trained to be a groomer and met her husband through their mutual love for dogs.

“We walked together with our dogs, and we realized that in addition to such love, love was born between us. Now, 10 years later, we are happily married and have two children,” Adrijana, a mom of twins said.

Sadly, Bundaš is not the only dog that Adrijana has seen in such poor condition. The mission of opening her salon has been to save as many dogs as possible from the streets and to educate others.

“What I’m doing right now is what I’ve wanted all my life, and my only mission is to save as many dogs as possible,” Adrijana said.

As a groomer, she has a message for all dog owners.

“When a dog gets into a state where it is so neglected that it hurts him extremely, painful wounds are created,” she said. “So, if you love your dog, do your best not to get into such a state. Before it’s too late, contact a groomer.”
