A dog that got itself stuck in a tree in Idaho, after chasing a squirrel, gave fire crews and police a giggle when they came to his rescue.

“Well, definitely not a cat in a tree,” Caldwell Fire Department posted on Facebook on Jan. 12 after fire crews and police attended the site of a stuck pup named Izzy, a pit bull/husky mix. “After much coaxing, the canine was brought safely to the ground. Perhaps he will not be so persistent, next time, in chasing squirrels.”

Photos of the unusual incident show the dog perched high up in the branches of a large tree, looking down, having failed to catch his target. After being lowered to the ground by Animal Control Officer Megan Townsend, he was treated to a bowl of kibble.

“This lady is the one who actually teetered to the top,” Izzy’s grateful owner, Christina Danner, told The Epoch Times.

The fire department’s post went viral and netizens were amused by Izzy’s lofty adventure.

“Well I did know some dogs like to climb, but that dog was way out on a limb,” one person commented on Facebook.

“He doesn’t give up easy. Now he just needs to learn how to climb down. The squirrels better move to another area,” wrote another.

While a third person quipped, “To catch the squirrel, one must become the squirrel.”

Despite Izzy’s climbing prowess, Danner wrote in the comments section that he was the runt of his litter, adding, “He did not learn his lesson. He’s been whining all morning trying to get out and get that squirrel!”

In a photo from Jan. 13 shared with The Epoch Times, persistent Izzy sits in another, smaller tree with his beady eyes on three squirrels. Luckily, he didn’t need rescuing this time.
