CANBERRA, Australia—Karma Singey, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Australia, praised Shen Yun Performing Arts and its presentation of “China before communism” after attending the March 31 performance in Canberra, the country’s capital.
It was New York-based Shen Yun’s opening performance to kick off its 2022 tour Down Under that will bring the magical world of ancient China to audiences in Sydney, Melbourne, Bendigo, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, and Adelaide through May 15.

“The performance was very good; it has a lot of message,” said Mr. Singey, who enjoyed the performance with the former representative of Tibet in Australia Mr. Lhakpa Tshoko.

Mr. Singey remarked at how well the performance brought to life China’s “century-old traditions” for the audience to experience.

“Preservation of our old culture is very important,” he said.

In addition to paying tribute to China’s 5,000-year-old divinely-inspired culture, Mr. Singey added that Shen Yun had a powerful message for the world.
“We believe in the message of peace, non-violence. In that case, [Shen Yun] sends a strong message to the people of the world,” he said.

Former ABC radio presenter for the Tropical North, John Worldon, was also in the audience at the Canberra Theatre.

“I’m absolutely amazed at the talent and discipline,” he said of the dancers. “I’m just in awe of, not only the dancers, but the musicians as well and the orchestra.”
Shen Yun tours with a live orchestra that features a unique blend of classical Western and traditional Chinese instruments that have found harmony with each other.
“It’s just an absolutely amazing spectacle, and I’m very privileged to have been here to see it for at least one night tonight,” Mr. Worldon said.

Full of Life and Emotion

David Smith, who attended the performance with his wife Julie, also expressed his appreciation for Shen Yun.

“I think it’s very vibrant, very colourful. It’s full of life and emotion,” Mr. Smith, an IT professional, said.

“I really do love and appreciate Chinese culture and heritage in history. So this is really bringing me to that place.

“If you’re interested in China, it’s a must, must see.”
