It seems all the buzz around health today revolves around women, and for good reason. Women make up a huge part of the market in natural health, whereas men seem to be indifferent on day to day health matters. However, if there is one thing men tend to focus on its prostate health as it affects a good number of men over 40, and over 80% of men over 60. I’d say its time to investigate how to heal the prostate through natural remedies.

The Role of the Prostate Gland

The prostate is a walnut sized gland that sits just below the bladder in men. Although it doesn’t get a lot of attention (until something goes wrong), it has some very important roles in men’s overall health, and the health of his offspring. The prostate gland is a key component in the male reproductive system and is responsible for a few key things, including:
  • The makeup of the male sperm
  • Filtering toxins and impurities out of the semen to produce the finest sperm possible
  • First line of defence against disease and infection of the genitourinary system
So to ensure a healthy urinary system and healthy offspring, the prostate gland carries a lot of the load.

The Main Causes of Prostate Dysfunction

For prostate enlargement to become such a big issue for men, one has to wonder what common threads have made this the biggest concern for mens health. Although there are a number of contributing factors, there are certainly some common ones that have lead to this condition.

Xenoestrogens

Perhaps one of the most common impurities we have in our systems today are xenoestrogens, or man made estrogen mimicking molecules. Xenoestrogens are found in a number of places but are most common in plastic containers, lining of canned food, styrofoam cups and containers, cosmetics and toiletries, and agricultural chemicals.
Other hormone disruptors that are largely consumed on a daily basis include unfermented soy products, and animal protein that has been injected with growth hormones. These chemicals and disruptors cause imbalances in the delicate male estrogen – testosterone balance which leads directly to an enlarged prostate. These estrogen mimicking molecules need to be removed in order to heal the prostate effectively.

Sedentary lifestyle

Due to its location, the prostate needs a healthy amount of circulation to provide it with fresh blood and oxygen. This is why any form of exercise is beneficial, and high intensity exercise a few times a week may prove to be exactly what the prostate ordered.
